Shana Campbell, MA, LPC

Teens (17+) & Adults

Shana is a first-generation American. She was born was raised in Brooklyn, NY, and her parents are from the beautiful island of Jamaica. Her parents always instilled in her that she can achieve anything in life!

Shana holds a Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Richmont Graduate University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Clark Atlanta University. As a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), she is empowering her clients to remember their WHOLENESS and Self-Worth through Self-Love. She provides high-level support to her clients who are always “on-the-go”, the professional, the parent, the caregiver, and anyone who has a demanding lifestyle. Oftentimes, trying to hold everyone and everything together can create burnout. While supporting everyone, who is supporting you? I help my clients create a self-care routine and strategies on how to create more harmony within their personal and professional lives.

What is the first session like?

“Your first session with me will be mainly two (2) things that I kick off the session. My new clients are primarily in the driver’s seat to share the following (no particular order): 1) Go more in depth for your reason in why you are seeking therapy at this time? and 2) I would love for you to share about your childhood upbringing and family background. Since there’s usually a connection/correlation for the reason you are seeking therapy.”

What makes you want to be a therapist? What do you love or enjoy about your job?

“I’m a therapist because… I’m doing my mission of helping others to improve their quality of life and fulfilling one of my life’s missions.”

“I love my work because…I enjoy helping others navigate their life and witness their milestones and transformations as they begin to realize their true potential. ”

What are some of your favorite interventions?

“One of the most important things that I teach my clients is… healthy boundaries, assertive communication has organically been a staple approach with all of my clients regardless of their reason for seeking therapy.”

“I love to share… when appropriate to share a personal life experience that is relevant and relatable, that maybe similar to what a client is currently experiencing. I notice that enhances the therapeutic relationship and indirectly acts as a catalyst of hope; they can overcome or see improvement in their lives.”

First and foremost, seeking support through counseling is a strength! And even if you or your loved ones see it as a weakness or something scary, it’s okay to feel weak and it’s okay to be nervous. These are normal human emotions – especially when we try something new.

As a professional counselor, I am committed to a certain way of doing things:

  • To listen, and listen well
  • To be kind, respectful, and fun (sometimes!)
  • To help you feel heard, understood, and valued
  • To help you understand yourself and others more deeply
  • To help you set and reach goals
  • To utilize proven techniques backed by research
  • To offer suggestions that may help
  • To challenge you at times, in a respectful way
  • To follow ethical guidelines set forth by the American Counseling Association

The main counseling theory that I utilize is Carl Rogers’ Client Centered Therapy, which emphasizes an unconditional positive regard for the client and a non-judgmental approach. I strive to see every client with respect, genuine care and concern, and even awe at their unique life experiences and way of being. I also incorporate artistic, Cognitive Behavioral, existential, imagery, play, solution-focused, attachment-based, and trauma techniques.  I work best with children of all ages, young adults, women, parents, couples, families, and veterans. Some of my areas of focus include Adoption and Fostering, Anxiety/OCD/Panic/Phobias, Christian Counseling, Infant Adjustment and Bonding, Parenting, Relationships, Self-esteem, and Trauma.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, the highest level of licensure for counselors, as well as a Nationally Certified Counselor and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. I have completed many types of professional training, including hypnotherapy, Externship and Core Skills for Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples, Emotionally Focused Family Therapy, Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy, and various trauma therapies.

Counseling is an art – and I am an artist at heart. Let’s make something beautiful together!
